Park Rules: Check-in after 1 p.m. for sites, 3 p.m. for cabins; check-out is noon. Quiet hours 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Visitors are allowed 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. but must pay additional fee. Maximum of six people per site. Pets welcome, including in some (but not all) lodging. No display or use of firearms or fireworks is permitted, and alcohol consumption is limited to sites. In an effort to limit the spread of destructive insects, we also ask campers not to bring in outside firewood. Maximum stay of two weeks for tents, pop-ups, and cabins/lodges.
Local Interest: We're nine miles from downtown Staunton, home to one of the largest concentrations of Victorian architecture in any small U.S. city, including five national historic districts and more than 100 shops, art galleries and restaurants--all of which can be explored aboard a free trolley. The added presence of the American Shakespeare Center's Blackfriars Playhouse, the American Museum of Frontier Culture and numerous other cultural venues placed Staunton tenth on Smithsonian Magazine's list of "20 best small towns in America." We're also just a 20-minute drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park, with their abundant hiking trails. Other nearby attractions include the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Musuem in Staunton, the P. Buckley Moss Museum in nearby Waynesboro, the homes of Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe, and numerous Civil War sites, caverns, resorts and tourist attractions, such as the Virginia Safari Park.
