We are proud to be the third family to continue the legacy of Whispering Surf Campground in over 100 years. Established in 1913 as an Episcopalian Boys Camp, Camp Morrison - Whispering Surf is the oldest continuously run campground in the state of Michigan. Situated on a peninsula between beautiful Bass Lake and the sparkling sands of Lake Michigan – we are a cozy family campground nestled under beautiful old growth pines. In 1966 the camp was purchased from its original owner and modernized to accommodate the modern travel trailer. In the years since, the infrastructure of Whispering Surf has been upgraded to accommodate todays RV needs – full hook-up sites with 20/30/50 amp service, high quality cable TV and free WiFi. While Whispering Surf still preserves the quaintness of an old fashion campground it has kept up with modern technology.
Third generation families are camping at Whispering Surf. Our beautiful private beach on Bass Lake is a short boardwalk stroll away from the camp. There you can swim on our sandy bottom beach, dock your boat, fish off our dock or enjoy a picnic lunch. Boat rentals are available at Whispering Surf at very reasonable rates. A ten minute stroll down Lakeshore Drive will pop you out at the outlet on Lake Michigan where the water is always bathtub warm and the surfs always up at Lake Michigan. Children will enjoy playing on The Ark and Saturday night popcorn is popular among young and old. We serve coffee on Saturday and Sunday mornings and offer mini golf to all our guests at no additional charge.
Our Lodge is one of the few turn-of-the century pavilions remaining today and is a great place to spend a rainy day or evening. The Lodge offers ping pong, pool, foosball and air hockey. You can also enjoy a wide selection of board games or puzzles. Our library offers a reading selection for all ages. The Lodge can be reserved for special group events.
In 2017 our two historic cottages were completely renovated - the Davis Cottage offers 2BR's and the Dorothy Cottage offers 3 BR's - both have full modern bathrooms and adequately stocked kitchenettes. .
Reservations are highly recommended as we fill up fast. West Michigan has so much to offer spring, summer or fall. Please join our family at Whispering Surf Campground where memories are made.
