Some of the scenic views along the way include the 100-mile-long Sangre de Cristo mountain range; the Wet mountains; the Arkansas River; Hardscrabble Canyon; Bishops Castle; and the Greenhorn Valley. Three miles down the road from the campground is Lake San Isabel (elev. 8,600 ft.), a part of the San Isabel National Forest. Hiking trails weave throughout the National Forest, leading to beautiful mountain peaks and green mountain valleys. Local towns include Rye (6,900 ft) and Colorado City (6,000 ft). Colorado City boasts a 27-hole golf course. As you golf at Hollydot Golf Course, you can enjoy the scenery of the Greenhorn Valley and Wet Mountains. There are three restaurants within a half hour to fill your dining needs. Outside of Canon City, Colorado is the Royal Gorge Suspension Bridge, the world's highest suspension bridge, at a height of 1053' above the river.
