Northwest Montana Camping

Northeast Montana Camping

The semi-arid badlands of Northeast Montana "Missouri River Country" offer some of the most interesting sights of the state. Explore dinosaur fossils and other paleontological finds at Fort Peck Museum. The Missouri River area transports you back to the early 19th century when the Lewis & Clark expedition crossed the region in dugout canoes in 1804. See historic towns such as Glasgow, an early railroad stop, Wolf Point, a historic fur trading post, and Scobey, a wayside stop for travelers to Canada at the turn-of-the-century. North Central Montana Camping

East meets West in North Central Montana "Russell Country" where rivers, small mountain ranges, rolling hills and verdant valleys combine to offer excellent recreational opportunities. Go hiking in the Crazy Mountains, fishing in the Musselshell River. Explore historic trails, such as the Lewis and Clark Trail, the Blackfeet Indian trail markers outside Choteau, Bynum & Dupuyer and the Nez Perce trail, marking the flight of the Nez Perce Indians from the pursuing US Cavalry. South Central Montana "Yellowstone Country" is home to Montana's share of the Yellowstone National Park forests, scenic drives and historic attractions. Bozeman is the hub for recreation in the beautiful Gallatin Valley. The Madison, Jefferson and Gallatin rivers come together for great kayaking and canoeing at Missouri Headwaters State Park. Southwest Montana Camping

The Southwest Montana "Gold West Country" lies in the heart of Montana history. The state capital of Helena is the "city that gold built," where one of the richest gold strike in the country's history was made at Last Chance Gulch, and is the hub for exploring the region. Take a boat tour through Gates of the Mountains Canyon. Visit the former boomtown of Butte. The World Museum of Mining and Hell Roarin’ Gulch are old mining towns with historic equipment. The Pintler Scenic Loop takes you through high mountain passes and the historic mining towns of Anaconda and Philipsburg. Georgetown Lake is a favorite boating destination. Southeast Montana Camping

The badlands of Southeast Montana "Custer Country" is where General George Armstrong Custer made his infamous "Last Stand" against the combined forces of the Sioux and Cheyenne Indians in 1876 and is commemorated at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument near Hardin. The region's land is marked by rolling plains and seemingly random cliffs, ridges and cones. Explore Makoshika State Park where you can delve back through millions of years to the time of the dinosaurs.
