Capital/River Mississippi Camping

The Capital/River region of Mississippi is an exciting blend of arts, shopping and history as well as recreation, dining and entertainment. Jackson is the Capital of Mississippi and houses the Eudora Welty House, theRussell C. Davis Planetarium, the Mississippi Agriculture/ Forestry & National Agricultural Aviation Museum, the Mississippi Museum of Art and the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. Canton is a cultural center offering the Historic Madison County Courthouse, the Movie Museums and the Allison's Wells School of Arts and Crafts, Inc.. Natchez is a charming old river city that is the oldest standing settlement on the Mississippi River and features historic homes & churches, the Canal Street Depot, the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians and Natchez National Historical Park. Historic Port Gibson, famous for being saved from the "scorched earth policy" of the Civil War by General Ulysses S. Grant, is home to Grand Gulf Military Park and the arts of the Mississippi Cultural Crossroads. Rdgeland offers the treasure of the Antique Mall of the South, the hand-painted dinnerware of Gail Pittman and the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Mississippi Hills Camping

The Hills region of Mississippi abounds with the recreation of the scenic state parks & foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and the vibrant history of its town. Corinth was a major Civil War railway battleground. Grenada was born out of the wedding of two citizens from two feuding towns and today features the recreation of Grenada Lake. Collegiate Oxford, where the University of Mississippi - "Ole Miss" - is located, was the hometown of author William Faulkner, who lived at Rowan Oak. The DeSoto County offers the water activities of Horn Lake and much more. Mississippi Delta Camping

This Mississippi Delta is the Home of the Blues, where performers such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker and others inspired blues, rock & roll and other musicians worldwide. Clarksdale is abundant with history & culture at places such as the Delta Blues Museum, the Hopson Plantation and the Ground Zero Blues Club. Cleveland offers the activities of Delta State University and important blues venues and sites, such as Dockery Farms. Greenville, a stop along the Great River Road, lies along the banks of the Mississippi River and features the River Road Queen Visitor Welcome Center (pdf), museums, historic sites and Delta Blues festivals. Mississippi Pines Camping

The Mississippi Pines region is an outdoor recreation paradise. Paddle the whitewater Chunky River and the 200-mile Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Choctaw features the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club, the Choctaw Museum of the Southern Indian and the Geyser Falls Water Park. Columbus is the birthplace of playwrite Tennessee Williams and offers historic home tours and Waterway dinner cruises. Meridian was the hometown of "The Father of Country Music," Jimmie Rodgers and today features carousels and historic sites. Philadelphia hosts the Neshoba County Fair and is the home of the Nanih Waiya Historic Site and much more.
